15 Things All Happy Couples Do Before They Go to Sleep

We all want a longer and happier relationship, and the key to that is definitely in the bedroom!

No not just sex! What are you people, animals?

Just kidding folks, of course a healthy sex life is an important part of most people’s relationships. But your night time routine can say a lot about your relationship.

Do you two just flop into bed at the end of the day with barely a look or a work?

You could really benefit from reading through these quick and simple pieces of advice! See if they would fit in with your life, and they could really improve your relationship!

1. Switch your phone to silent and put them both away!

Try following this simple rule: both of you turn off your phones, or put them away at 9pm exactly.
Being addicted to social media means you won’t be as engaged or intimate with your partner at the end of the day, so try this simple trick!

2. Forget all about work

Sounds great, right? Try to put work to the back of your mind, and stop checking your work emails when you are in bed. Also, you can’t check it if you don’t have your phone, so there’s another reason to unplug! It’s so much better to spend that time together resting, and be more productive tomorrow. Pillow talk connects couples emotionally! It helps you to forget about problems, and it makes you feel relaxed. Avoid talking about heavy subjects such as work, and also things like finances, that could make you or your partner feel worried.

3. Don’t argue or get into heated conversations

Fighting in bed NEVER solved a problem, so there’s another reason to keep away from those stressful topics. It will make it harder for you both to fall asleep, and you’ll feel tired and lethargic the next day.

4. Have a heart-to-heart talk instead

So if you DON’T talk about all that stuff, what DO you say? Well, pay attention to each other’s feelings! It’s not about finding immediate solutions to problems, just talking and feeling like our loved ones care for us and support us.

5. Go to bed at the same time as your partner

Many couples don’t see each other all day long, and then they have a habit of going to bed at different times. Whereas happy couples brush their teeth together, go to bed at the same time, and this helps them to maintain a sense of warmth and intimacy in their relationship.

6. Follow a routine

Following the same bedtime routine every night helps you sleep better. While doing this, your brain recognizes that bedtime is approaching and prepares your body for sleep. If you follow the same routine, and you also follow it together with your partner, this will make your relationship way more intimate and trustworthy.

7. DO say I love you!

Make the effort to let your partner know they are loved! Rather than just saying it as an afterthought just as you’re about to turn out the light, say it like you really mean it!

8. Keep your bedroom child-free

If you have kids, the only time you should let your children sleep in your bed is if they have a nightmare. At all other times, the bedroom should be your own private space, which helps to maintain the intimacy of your relationship.

9. The same goes for pets

Don’t share your bed with the cat, the dog, your goldfish, a budgie… oh and also your partner. Most people who sleep with their pets don’t get enough sleep, since their pet doesn’t sleep through the night and often disturbs its owner’s sleep.

10. Don’t smoke or drink alcohol

Many couples like to have a glass of wine before going to bed to create a romantic atmosphere. And that’s great. But consider that while your body is digesting alcohol, you get a less restful night’s sleep, which will make you feel tired and irritable when you wake up in the morning. Alcohol also makes snoring likely, and the nicotine in cigarettes is bad for you if you suffer insomnia.

11. Do give each other a massage

Sounds pretty nice to me! Experts say that a light, relaxing massage before going to bed improves the quality of your sleep, reduces anxiety, and can bring couples closer together. Try it out!

12. Try to prioritize getting a good night’s sleep

Maybe it isn’t the most romantic advice, getting a good night’s sleep is important for your mental health, which of course is good for your relationship.

13. Take a few minutes to practice gratitude

Try dedicating a few minutes before going to sleep each night to express positive feelings! It helps to finish the day on a positive note and will make you feel a whole lot better. Share something you’re thankful for, whether that’s something specific that you appreciate about one another, or maybe a positive experience from the day!

14. Make eye contact

Sounds simple, right? But would you believe that many couples don’t even look at each other? Just being with each other is a really beautiful way to connect. And gazing into your partner’s eyes can actually increase arousal! Hubba hubba!

15. Don’t forget about those affectionate hugs and kisses

Don’t forget to kiss your partner before going to sleep, and cuddle for a few minutes when you are already in bed too. It’s a very relaxing situation and evokes positive emotions. Psychologists say that if you hug to fall asleep, your relationship is a strong one!
